Test Days

Today and tomorrow the students will be taking the first unit test. They have had a week to study the actual test questions and ask me questions during class. They were given a 4x6 index card to write notes on. This index card was allowed as a resource during the test. I am allowing 2 class periods to finish the test today and tomorrow.

Sunshine Math will be handed out tomorrow so that those students who finish the test early will have something to work on during class.

I will be giving students the work that they owe along with additional copies of the papers. All work must be completed and turned in by next Friday. Any work not finished or handed in will receive a grade of 0.

Today's class was spent reviewing for tomorrows test and making sure the correct information was put on the index cards. Students will be allowed to use the index cards during the test as well as calculators. Remember showing all work is the only way to get complete credit for a problem.

Decimals

Today's lessons were packed with lots of information. We first took a look at decimal place value up to the thousandths place then we used this knowledge to compare decimals of different sizes. Mrs. Roys homeroom had a little catch up to do from yesterday so all of their homework assignments for tonight were cut in half.

Converting - Fractions and Decimals-

Today's class was very busy. We are nearing the end of our unit so I gave the students copies of the test questions. They are allowed to do them and study them prior to the test next Thursday. We went over each question and came up with strategies on how to solve the problems. The teaching topic for today was converting fractions and decimals. After a brief mini-lesson students were aloud to start their homework in class and get help from me. Mrs. Roy's homeroom did not get the homework assignmnt tonight due to limited class time so they will have it tomorrow evening.

Compare/Order Fractions

Comparing and Ordering Fractions can be a lot of fun. Today students learned 2 different methods. The first method is the traditional--creating equivalent fractions using the least common multiple. The second method was cross multiplication. Students tend to prefer the second method because it requires a lot less work.
